Picks include cash dividends without reinvestment. SPY and Bitcoin benchmarks show price returns. Short returns follow the simplified competition rules below.

2 Selections

Each participant picked one US-listed stock, long or short, on January 30, 2026. The competition runs through December 31, 2026. Current returns use the selection-day close and latest available price, plus cash dividends. A short earns the negative of the stock’s return, excluding borrowing and financing costs. SPY and Bitcoin serve as price-return benchmarks.

3 Stock Deep Dives

Fundamentals, technicals, and sector context for each pick. Data refreshes with every site build. Statements use SEC EDGAR with a Yahoo Finance fallback when EDGAR data is unavailable; profiles come from EDGAR, and stock prices from Databento. Peer metrics are computed from these inputs.

TipHow to read these tabs

Price chart

  • 50/200-day moving average: the average closing price over the last 50 or 200 trading days. Price above a rising average signals an uptrend.
  • RSI-14: a momentum score from 0 to 100 based on the last 14 trading days. Above 70 the rally looks stretched (overbought), below 30 the selling does (oversold). It flags stretched moves, not guaranteed reversals.

Financial trends

  • Revenue growth (YoY): sales vs the same period last year, which removes seasonality.
  • Gross, operating, and net margin: the share of each sales dollar left after direct costs, then overhead, then everything including taxes. Negative means losing money at that level. Lenders like AXP report no gross profit line.
  • Diluted EPS: profit per share using weighted-average shares, including the effect of dilutive potential shares.
  • Free cash flow: cash generated after capital spending, available for dividends, buybacks, or paying down debt.
  • Net debt: total debt minus cash. Negative means more cash than debt.

Sector & peers

  • Sector ETF: a fund representing the pick’s sector within the S&P 500 (XLK for technology). Both lines start at 0% on selection day, so you can tell whether a pick is beating its sector or just riding it.
  • Market cap: the total value of all the company’s shares.
  • P/E ratio (ttm/fwd): price divided by earnings per share. “ttm” uses the last twelve months of actual earnings, “fwd” uses analyst estimates for the next twelve. Trailing P/E is unavailable when required inputs are missing, earnings are nonpositive, or the calculated ratio exceeds this site’s display limit of 500. Forward P/E is unavailable because this site’s sources do not supply analyst earnings estimates.

4 Data Sources

  • Financial statements primarily come from SEC EDGAR, with a Yahoo Finance fallback when EDGAR returns no statement data for a company. Growth rates, margins, free cash flow, and net debt are computed locally from the retrieved statements. Company profiles and filing links come from EDGAR.
  • Stock and ETF prices come from Databento: official closing prices for completed sessions, and its US Equities Mini feed for the current session during market hours.
  • Bitcoin prices come from the Kraken public market-data API.
  • The S&P 500 benchmark is tracked with the SPY ETF on price return (dividends excluded), consistent with the index-level baseline used before July 2026.
  • Peer-comparison figures (market cap, P/E, growth, margins) use EDGAR shares outstanding, the statement sources above, and Databento prices.
  • Dividends come from Yahoo Finance, retrieved with yfinance, an open-source Python package not affiliated with Yahoo.
  • Technical indicators (moving averages, RSI) are computed locally from the price history.
  • Sector indexes are the Select Sector SPDR ETFs (XLK, XLY, XLF, XLI).
  • Figures refresh with each site build and may lag live markets. Not affiliated with or endorsed by the SEC.

5 Code Attribution

  • The leaderboard and performance charts are my own code.
  • The Stock Deep Dives section and the analytics modules behind it were built with Claude Code (Anthropic) to a design, data sourcing, and review process I directed.
  • Codex (OpenAI) assisted with development, review, and site maintenance.
