I’m Brennen Slaney, an MBA candidate at Harvard Business School in the Class of 2028. Before business school I spent six years as an actuary in Nashville. At Cigna I priced Medicare Advantage plans and projected pharmacy cost trend; at Fortitude Re I brought annuity assumption studies in house, worked on asset-liability management (ALM) projections, and set interest-rate hedge targets. I became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 2024.

I am drawn to financial markets, data science, and AI, and at HBS I want to go deeper on where technology, energy, and climate meet. The US Energy analysis on this site started from that interest, and I volunteer with the Society of Actuaries’ Climate & Extreme Weather Data Analysis Group, where I contributed heavily to its shared code repository and am writing a report on extreme temperatures.

I grew up in Cincinnati, studied Finance and Applied Statistics at the University of Alabama, and moved to Boston in August 2026. Outside of work I follow the Steelers, hike, travel, and read nonfiction; here is what I’m reading.
